Tiny Town’s Inn Offers Walks in the Winds, Atlantic City, Wyoming
Valid from 5/15/2009 to 9/30/2009 (Summer)
Atlantic City, WY - Let mountain air brush your cheeks and comb your hair as you stroll past historic gold mines. In the spirit of European noncompetitive hikes through gorgeous country settings, the American Volkssport Association sanctioned Miner’s Delight Inn Bed & Breakfast owners Barbara and Bob Townsend in 2008 to add two Volksmarches to the state’s list. This will make four accredited events in Wyoming's Wind River Country. The new seasonal walks will be available between May 15 and September 30, 2009.
Volkswanderung, German for “people’s walk,” began more than four decades ago to promote health and fellowship. The walks are not races, and they are designed to accommodate walkers of all athletic abilities.
Barbara and Bob offer a $20 discount to Miner’s Delight Inn B&B guests (http://www.minersdelightinn.com) who stay three nights if they complete the inn’s two events and the Volksmarches at South Pass City State Historic Site and Sinks Canyon State Park. Walkers should wear good shoes and a hat, carry water and snacks, and consider the near-8,000-foot elevations as they stroll in the Wind River Country’s high-altitude beauty.

Horse Breaking the Native American Way in Wyoming’s beautiful Wind River country with Stanford Addison
Valid from 7/24/2008 to 9/14/2008 (Summer)
- Learn the Native American way of breaking colts at unique horse training clinics with Stanford Addison on July 24-27, August 14-17 and September 11-14. Stanford, a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe, has spent many years as a horse breaker using traditional Native American techniques, and a method he calls "heyteyneytah," the Arapaho word for "respect," to calm horses. As Stan describes it: "This approach preserves the spirit of the horse. It builds respect with them and builds trust so that they want to listen to us because they know we won't hurt them." His results are amazing; what makes it even more amazing is that Stanford does all this from a wheelchair.
Stanford, a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe, has spent many years as a horse breaker using traditional Native American techniques. Based on Stanford’s experiences and his keen observation of horse behavior, he has developed a method of horse breaking that is non-cruel, organic, and spiritual in nature. These elements combine to form a safe and humane horse breaking method to produce a finer horse. This non-forceful method of horse training engenders mutual respect and cooperation between horse and trainer. During this three-day, two-night special event, you will see the results of this unique practice to include development of self-knowledge, self-esteem, respect, and healing. You can stay at a nearby hotel or at the Ranch, but you must bring your own equipment such as sleeping bags, pads, tents, folding chairs, and any personal gear. You are also encouraged to bring your own horse!
The Heyteyneytah Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk youth from across Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain West. These young adults have faced difficult life trials, such as physical and verbal abuse, drug and alcohol addictions, and racial discrimination on a scale unimaginable to most people. As you watch and learn Stanford’s unique methods of horse breaking, you will also experience Northern Arapaho culture and traditions as a part of daily life at the Ranch. As part of daily ranch activities, Stanford and his ranch hands prepare meals, complete a variety of ranch chores, hold talking circles to reflect on the day’s activities, and conduct nightly sweats in a traditionally constructed sweat lodge. You are welcome and encouraged to participate in these daily activities. In addition, Stanford and the youth will work one-on-one with you and the horses. Watching the at-risk youth discover a path to self-awareness by Stanford’s gentle promotion of healing of self and increasing self-esteem is an opportunity every human should see first hand at least once in his or her lifetime. Your attendance and contribution to this special event will allow Stanford to continue this important cause.
Come to the Addison Ranch for personal discovery, spiritual enrichment, and emotional growth. Come to satisfy your curiosity or to enhance your own horse breaking. You will leave with an appreciation and understanding of superior horse breaking techniques, and a deeper love for your horse. Come lend a hand, learn and spread the word by attending this special event during the beautiful late summer weather of the Wind River Basin.
The cost for a 4-day clinic is $800 per person. To register, contact: Stanford Addison Ranch, 239 Givens Road, Arapahoe, WY 82510 cell phone: (307) 349-8669 or ranch (307) 332-3813. Or contact Wind River Development Fund, P.O. Box 661, Ft. Washakie, WY 82514 (307) 335-7330 aeven@wrdf.org
Taylor Outfitters
On the Trail of the Nez Perce
Valid from 09/01/2009 to 09/8/2009 (Summer)
Join us on this 8-day pack trip to follow the Nez Perce National Historic Trail as it weaves through Yellowstone's backcountry during the 1877 Nez Perce flight towards Canada. Stories of encounters with soldiers, mercenary Indian scouts, and local tourists mingle with Yellowstone's unique setting of wildness, wildflowers, and wildlife. We will ride from Pelican Valley about 12 miles to our first camp in the upper Mist Creek area to see Yellowstone much as the Nez Perce saw this wilderness backcountry. Yellowstone offers a wide array of habitat types from riparian systems to mountain plateaus with an equally wide range of flora and fauna. We will explore these native edible plants and animals along the way. This trip is designed as an educational and historical experience to better understand this special place.
We will meet at the Pelican Valley Trailhead (5K3) September 1 at 10: AM. Directions to this trailhead are: from Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone Park go about 2.5 miles east towards Yellowstone's east entrance and Cody to the Pelican Valley Trailhead (5K3). Look for us packing and saddling up at the trailhead. Our adventure trip will end at the same trailhead 8 days later about 4: PM.
When packing please try to minimize your gear as much as possible, think light and compact with layers as we try to minimze our impact on Yellowstone's backcountry camp sites by limiting the number of pack animals needed for each trip. Participants furnish their own sleeping bag, pad and personal gear and will be given a gear list upon booking with Taylor Outfitters.
We provide all meals, camping supplies and equipment except for your sleeping bags, pads and personal gear. We will plan on a wide array of meals for the trip, but if there is something in particular that you would prefer, please donʼt hesitate to contact us about it ahead of time. We offer great gourmet campfire meals and we would be glad to accommodate any specific dietary requests. The campfire possibilities are endless and fun.
We provide a quality wilderness experience in the Yellowstone backcountry; learn about the wide variety of native flora and fauna; learn about the historical interpretation about the flight of the Nez Perce across Yellowstone enroute toward Canada; discuss historical and current Yellowstone human and natural resource issues in order to share ideas and insights in an informal atmosphere; participate in camp activities; practice low impact camping and "Leave No Trace" techniques.
Our packing season begins in June and most of the summer we spend in the wilderness backcountry, so please leave a message for us at 307-455-2161 or email us at metaylor@wyoming.com and we will respond at our earliest opportunity. The trip cost is $2000 per person. Vacation and trip cancellation insurance is available from any of the major insurance companies if you need it. Our policy is that the trip deposit is non-refundable and due to the difficulty in rebooking a trip, the balance is non-refundable as well within 45 days of the pack trip departure.
We look forward to meeting you to share this unique wilderness experience with you in the Yellowstone backcountry.
